Ways to Limit Pollution

If you’re concerned about the environment and are wanting to do something besides switching your plastic carryout bags for paper bags and paper sacks, then you will be glad to know that there are many other things you can do to initiate change and to make mankind’s interaction with the environment more friendly. This article gives many tips on how you can change your actions to help the environment.

We all know that cars are one of the worst things for the environment, so many people are wondering what they can do to reduce the bad effects that their car has on the environment, and of course one of the easiest things you can do is to avoid driving whenever possible, which you can do by taking a different means of transportation like the subway or a bike, and also try to keep your trips closer to home. If your trips are short, you can walk or bike. If they are longer and you’re going with friends, try to carpool. Carpooling is a great solution because not only do you get the opportunity to socialize and save pollution emissions but you also can save a lot of money on gas.

You can be more efficient with the gas you use to fuel your car and decrease emissions by driving 55 miles per hour instead of 70 miles per hourto help too. Making sure that your car is in good shape and that you do not accelerate too quickly can help cut back emissions.

A big environmental concern is the great distances that our foods travel over before they reach us in our super markets and grocery storesbecause they pollute a lot. If you make an effort to buy your food from local sources like from farmers markets, or a community garden, you will reduce pollution and eat better food. Buying food products within a fifty-mile radius can save a lot of shipping energy and therefore, a lot of pollution.

Packaging is another huge source of pollution so buy in bulk. Fast food and any take out that we might purchase means that there is just that much more pollution that we are creating, and if we buy fresh foods and cook everything at home then we will be saving a lot of pollution. You can save packaging if you buy concentrated forms like cleaning supplies for kitchens, dishes, clothes, as well as other things.

Paper Bags are Better for the Environment

Everyone these days is trying to do their part to help clean up the environment and reduce and stop polluting the planet, but it is not always easy to know everything that you can do to help save the planet from being over run with pollution, and when it comes to being environmentally friendly to help protect the earth, it is almost just as important to stay informed as it is to act on the information you have. One way that people have tried to be conscious of what they are consuming and what they are recycling as well as what they can reuse is by trying to choose the right kind of sacks, or to go bags for them to put their groceries in when they go to the grocery store or when they go to their favorite restaurant to get some carry out.

It may surprise you is that it is just about as bad to use paper as it is to use plastic, and that the pros and cons of each type cancel each other out roughly. In terms of needed resources paper uses up as much as five times more natural resources as plastic does, as there are millions of acres of trees cut down every year to make paper ones, and this is pretty bad for the environment.

When you consider the good and the bad of paper and plastic in terms of the amount of pollution that is involved in the making of paper and plastic, the paper is a lot worse than the plastic because it creates almost twice as much pollution in the air and as much as fifty times as much pollution in the water as plastic does. When it comes to recycling a very low percentage of each are actually recycled at recycling plants of the countless ones that are produced every year and distributed, and this is even though it is almost twice as easy to recycle plastic than it is easy to recycle paper. Research shows that neither biodegrades much faster than the other, so if you can get reusable bags, but if you have to choose, go with plastic, because it is better for the environment than paper.

Save the Environment with these Simple Four Steps You can Do Today

In the last several years politicians have been urging citizens to be aware of how their behaviors are destroying the environment and that little things that they do can help fix the problem. Global warming is ahuge dilemma in the environment and the fast eroding in some coastal communities is frightening. Also, with the global warming it is destroyingmuch of Antarctica’s glaciers creating an increased water volume in the ocean which is now covering land at an alarming rate. This article will give you several ways on helping the environment such as recycling and/or reusing your carryout food containers and paper bags, replacing your light bulbs, using alternative modes of transportation and cutting back your meat consumption.

Step One: Recycle & Reuse
A majority of Americans do not recycle regularly. One reason is that itcharges more money. Theaverage cost to having a recycling service pick up your things is only $20 fora year. In some statesareas, incentives are offered to communities that participate in recycling. One such community is in Terrace Park, Ohio. This small town decided to pay for recycling for the entire town of 2,000 residents. Today more than 90% of the residents recycle,an increase from just 30%. When you recycle all of their plastic, glass and paper items it will greatly reduce your household trash amount which will then reduce the size of trash landfills. Another important way to reuse items is to use your own bags to gowhen shopping. Usually, when a shopper goes to the grocery market, they use four plastic bags. If youtake your own bag, it saves those 4 bags from gettingthrown away. Many stores have created beautiful reusable bags at a low cost to encourage this. In Europe all bags given by the market will result in a fee. This is very effective in encouraging people to bring their own bags.

Step Two: Replace your Light Bulbs
An easy energy saving solution that will help the environment in the long run is to change outall of your light bulbs in yourhouse. The more energy efficient ones are a bit more expensive, but the savings long term and benefits outweigh the upfront expense.

Step Three: Alternative Modes of Transportation
If each person would choose 1 day a week to not use their car, the air quality would greatly improve and as a result it will help the ozone layers. Either carpool with a coworker, ride your bike to school or walk to the store that isjust blocks away instead. Also, sell your gas guzzling SUV and buy a smaller vehicle as well.

Step Four: Reduce Meat Consumption
Recent studies show that the cost and energy used to provide meat to Americans is a costly one that is also hurting the environment. It was discovered that ifcitizens cut out 2-3 hamburgers a week it would be equal to removing all of the SUV’s from the roads in air quality and toxic gases in the environment. Not only does it help the environment, but eating a vegetarian meal now and then will as well.
