How The Economy and Technology have Hurt Certain Kinds of Doctors in America
An eye doctor also known as a Grand Blanc MI optometrist, have always been in high demand as the eyesight in most people is sure to deteriorate with age in addition to genetics that may result in poor eyesight beginning in childhood. Some of that high need has changed in part due to the economy in addition to newer technology causing people to sometimes not be able to afford to go to a Sandusky MI optometrist or selecting new alternatives done that gets rid of the need of glasses or contact lenses .
Today’s difficult economy and recession has hit Americans in every economic level and has had a complete trickle down effect on the whole country . One population that was once thought of being recession-proof was that of a doctor but some types of doctors are feeling the pinch these days . One type of doctor is an eye doctor, or an optometrist . A lot of companies have had to fire employees and with that go their medical benefits. Usually eye care is something people do not feel a great urgency to have looked at yearly if they already have their old glasses or contact lenses. Another thing that companies are eliminating to cut costs within their companies are medical insurance and benefits . several have eliminate medical insurance for eyes and this has resulted in less people being able to afford going to the eye doctor without insurance.
Another reason Americans have stopped going to an eye doctor is the impact of new technology such as lasik eye surgery. This laser based surgery has cured thousands of people’s vision in an easy out patient procedure that is not painful and the recovery time is minimal . the majority of patients can see better [seconds|immediately} after having the surgery done. Once you have this lasik procedure done, it is no longer necessary to wear glasses or contact lenses. Because of this, it has impacted general optometrists.
Another type of doctor that have been a bit affected by the economy are doctors that do elective procedures such as cosmetic surgery and weight loss surgeries like gastric bypass and lap band procedures . since they are elective, a lot of people simply can not afford to have these procedures done in a tough economy . If they have not been fired , they may have experienced a pay cut or even benefits that have been eliminated. Unless their condition is a medically necessary problem , most of these procedures are not covered by insurance so patients are opting not to have them done currently .
With the downturn of the economy these health care providers and doctors are expereincing difficult times that they never would have imagined but unfortunately, people can not simply afford elective medical expenses when their money is disappearing or they have been fired from their job. It is more imperative for them to have shelter and food on the table than a new pair of glasses or a face lift . Hopefully, as the economy gets better so will the careers of these important doctors.
