Suggestions on How to Make the Most of Working From Home

With the world all being connected to the wonderful world wide web and the advances in technology coming such a long way, a lot of businesses are now saving money on office space by having their employees work at home instead of in their office space. A lot of people also love the idea but once they start out they find they are not as productive and easily distracted by the home environment . This will describe ways to be just as professional at home and get more work done in less time such as setting up a real office in your home complete with an executive desk or executive desks, setting up work hours, shutting off your home phone and other ideas .

The first thing to do when preparing for your transition to working from home is to set up an real office space. If you presently have a guest room that rarely gets used, you may wish to change it to your new office. Another idea would be to convert part of your basement or even garage to an office space. This may not be as big of a project as you may think and would pay off later on when it is time to resell your house . If this is not in the cards , then find a room that is peaceful and has more room to set up a real office .

Now that you have created your office space , it is a smart idea to make it as much as a professional space as possible . Instead of using a foldable tray table invest in purchasing a real desk , one that would be like the one you had at your old office space . If you create a professional space to go to every day within your home , it will help you emotionally to transition into that mode since you no longer have to commute there to do that. Also, either have a second line installed for a phone line to be used for faxes, etc or just use your cell phone as your business phone. These expenses should be covered by your employer .

You should be disciplined with your schedule from home . Once a lot of people work from home, it is easy to get distracted by several things at home, such as the TV, the kids, chores to be done at home , etc. If you continue to wake up at the same time you used to to go to your job and because you do not have to commute can probably start your work day earlier too . Also, it is imperative to shower and change just the way you would when you went to work . Obviously it is not necessary to put on a suit to work from home, but just the process of showering and getting dressed before you “go to work” also helps to set the tone to be more productive .

Once all of these things are completed and you stick to your schedule you will find yourself getting more work done in less time which will allow you to enjoy other things outside of work .
