Setting up a Nice Religious Festival

When marking your calendar for the month or year, you always write down the fun occasions you want to celebrate. Most datebooks will already have holy days marked for you, but if you are planning a celebration for those days you may want to make your own mark on that day. Throwing a party for a religious occasion may be a little different than throwing a regular party. You can still have fun with a celebration based on a holy day.

Religious holidays are typically events that you would want to be around your family and close friends. Because you want to be around family, coming up with the guest list should be very easy. It might help to go over all the people invited with another family member, especially if you have a large family. If you do decide to invite friends as well, you may either want to make sure that they observe the holiday as well or that they at least understand the significance for you and your family.

Usually tradition is pretty heavily embedded with these celebrations. Sitting down with an older member of your family or your religious community may help to understand all the traditions. This will allow you to know what you need to prepare. There maybe traditions surrounding what activities you plan, what food you eat, or even what everyone wears. There may even be little traditions like certain people always bring certain dishes or that everyone has to take part in certain activity.

When thinking about serving food, you will want to consider the religious and family traditions. Depending on the faith or even just the holiday, there may be some dietary restrictions that you will have to observe. For example, during lent Catholics do not eat meat on Friday other than fish, or that those who practice Judaism keep kosher. You will want to keep this in mind when preparing or ordering food.

If you have a large family or invited a large group of people, space for everyone is an important aspect when planning the party. Plan like every person you invited is going to attend. If you are serving dinner, making sure there is enough space for people to sit and eat is really important. If you do not think there is going to be enough space or seating for the group, consider renting out some sort of space. If the holiday requires going to some sort of religious service prior to the celebration, you could attempt to rent some sort of space near to where the religious service will be held.

You want to make sure no matter what that the importance of the actual holiday is depicted. The party aspect of the celebration should not become the main focus. Celebrations based on a religious holiday should remind you of the importance of being with the people you’ve invited and not become a spectacle of unnecessary proportion.
