What You need To Make It In Fashion

Being in the fashion industry can be a stressful position. It takes a lot of time to build up a legitimate career that you can make a living from. It will require interning for big companies and working small jobs. You may even have to work for the crazy lady who sells her handmade baby dresses and baby clothes online out of her attic. It may seem painful and tedious at the time, but once you have moved on to a new level of success it will be worth it. To escape the pain while doing the busy work, just keep the image of your fashion line being featured at fashion week in your mind.

Part of being successful in fashion is having connections. It is almost impossible to succeed in this industry without good social networking. Find a way to attend parties and get your name on the scene. Take an internship for a bigger company to open up opportunities. You may spill coffee on a cute assistant who asks to take you to a fashion event, or deliver laundry to a top name designer. These types of things will open the doors of fashion for you. You cannot wait for fame to come your way. Working hard may not be the only key, you have to make success know your name.
Another part of being successful with fashion is good training. If you want to be a designer, it is most likely that no one will give a hoot about your basement sewing machine. Occasionally the luck fellow will get by using pure talent alone, but going to fashion school is one of the fastest way to rocket to the top. Design school will open doors for you and set up work for you after college as well as provide you with very good credentials. Plus, you never know who you may meet while going to school. A famous French designer’s nephew may ask you for your number and you could end up going to Paris for the summer meeting the top people in the fashion industry.

Going to school abroad is also something you should try to do. Moving far away from family and the environment you’re used to can be a big change, but the truth is that the core of fashion exists beyond our country. Places like Paris, Milan, Hong Kong and Amsterdam are thriving fashion cities. Just imagine all the opportunities that may befall you in those places.

Don’t let all the work that goes into the fashion industry scare you away. If you are truly passionate about fashion, it will be worth it. Working in the industry you love is very important. If you get scared away from this, you may end up working a boring office job you dislike. Do you want to spend your days wondering what might have happened if you had continued to live your dream. Don’t be a victim of regret, go for your dreams. Fashion can be a tough world to break into, but with good connections and the right work ethic it is also easy to succeed.
